Karakterisasi Dan Identifikasi Bakteri Fotosintetik Penghasil Pigmen Alami Yang Diisolasi Dari Perairan Laut Dumai
Exploration of marine microorganisms as a source of natural pigments has become a major focus in the development of environmentally friendly and sustainable coloring materials. This study aims to characterize and identify photosynthetic bacteria producing natural pigments isolated from Dumai waters. Isolation was carried out by the enrichment method using mineral salt medium under phototrophic conditions. Photosynthetic bacterial isolates that successfully grew were then characterized based on morpholgy and physiology. The results showed that of the four photosynthetic bacterial isolates obtained, one bacterial isolate (S1U3) showed the ability to produce green pigments, and three other isolates (S3U1; S3U2; S4U1) were able to produce red pigments. Based on the determination using Bergey's Manual of Determinative Bacteriology, the photosynthetic bacteria were indicated to come from the Cyanobacteria phylum (S1U3; S3U1; S3U) and Rhodobacter phylum (S4U1). Molecular identification is needed to obtain clearer species and in-depth analysis related to the application and efficiency of production on a large scale.
