Analisis Embung Sebagai Pengendalian Banjir Di Sungai Tangkerang Kota Pekanbaru
ABSTRACT
The Tangkerang River in Pekanbaru City frequently experiences flooding due to
high rainfall that exceeds the river’s capacity. This study aims to design a retention
pond (embung) as an alternative flood control measure to reduce the peak
discharge of the river flow. Hydrological analysis was conducted using the
Nakayasu Synthetic Unit Hydrograph (HSS) method with rainfall data from 2012
to 2021 to determine the design flood discharge for return periods of 2, 5, 10, 25,
50, and 100 years. Hydraulic analysis and flood simulations were performed using
HEC-RAS 6.5 software for both existing conditions and conditions after the
retention pond was planned. The simulation of the existing condition with a 25-year
return period discharge showed that flooding occurs at every cross-section with
water depths ranging from 20-113 cm. After the retention pond was designed, the
simulation showed a decrease in water level by 9–17 cm. The HEC-RAS software
was also used to compare these water levels, resulting in a calculated flood
reduction percentage of 21,72%. The retention pond is considered ineffective in this
study because it only slightly reduces flooding, and its limited volume combined
with the absence of an outlet system design makes it prone to overflowing at any
time.
