This study aims to determine the factors that influence students' interest and motivation in improving student learning outcomes in class X in field of study History at the State High School Sports Riau province and to find out what are the constraints faced by students and teachers with regard to the effect of interest and motivation of students in order to improve learning outcomes in the subject of History. This research is a qualitative descriptive study, with a population of 108 students of class X ( Ten ) State High School Sports Riau Doctrine year 2012/2013 and numbered 21 students sampled using proportional random sampling technique. Data was collected through observation and interview techniques. To achieve the objectives of the study, data analysis performed using frequency distributions and cross tables.
After the data is processed from a 31 item questions for students / respondents, in general ( 44,24 % ) expressed high, this means that in general students of SMA Sports Riau know that the interest and motivation of students had a great influence in order to improve outcomes learning and cross-table analysis of the obtained results are in general (38,1 %) students have the interest and motivation are still low but it gets a good rating with the acquisition of the fairly high value on learning outcomes. While the obstacles faced by students and is caused by factors originating student 's own self, family and school.
