Indonesia is an archipelago with a population of approximately 200 million people, with a wide range of distinctive and different cultures. The cultural differences can be seen in traditional wedding ceremony. This study aims to determine the processes and procedures of customary marriages in District Pakpak Bharat Subdistrict Kerajaan, North Sumatra Province. This study was conducted to Indigenous Leaders, Religious Leaders and the local community. Data were collected through interviews and review of the literature .
The results showed that the public Pakpak marriage in the subdistrict Kerajaan have been implemented the exogami marriage, ie marriage system where a person can only be allowed to mate with another clan . Until now customary marriage in District Pakpak Bharat Subdistrict Kerajaan, North Sumatra Province Still remain to be implemented, but there has been a shift or a change in practice. The shift is caused by: lack of public understanding about the traditional wedding of Pakpak, lack of awareness of the importance of cultural values in society of Pakpak, so easily adopt the customs of other ethnic marriage, identity crisis among the people of Pakpak, especially in customary marriages, lack of sense of pride in their own culture, the notion that indigenous discrepancy with the demands of the times, the assumption is more complicated, not modern, and not economical.
