Research aims: to determine the theme of culture-making skills shrimp paste in the District Bengkalis Meskom village, Bengkalis. The design of this study, using a qualitative research method refers to the method of ethnography that aims to describe human culture from the perspective of those who have studied the culture. Methods of ethnography is the work of describing a culture, in order to understand a way of life from the point of view of the natives. In qualitative research, there is no other choice than to make men as the main research instrument. The reason is that, things do not have a definite shape, focus of the research, the research procedure, the hypothesis is used, that the expected results, that it can not be determined exactly and clearly before. Everything still needs to be developed throughout the study. In a state of uncertainty and it is not clear, there is no other choice and only the research itself as the only tool that can achieve it. Data analysis is done by using the model of data analysis models that use flow Spradley advanced research stages with 12 stages in qualitative research. However, analysis of the data in this study, the researcher uses only 4 stages, namely: (1) domain analysis, (2) taxonomic analysis, (3) analysis komponensial and (4) analysis of cultural themes. The results of this study found a theme that is: (1) maintain the tradition (2) a sense of belonging (3) collaboration (4) persistence. Conclusions that can be drawn from the results of research skills in the village make shrimp paste meskom productivity for the creation of a better shrimp paste so that there is a life skill and expertise in life, in developing cooperation, a sense of belonging and persistence someone.
