Penentuan Karakteristik Dasar Ekosistem Rawa Gambut Bekas Kebakaran Di Desa Tanjung Leban Area Transisi Cagar Biosfer Giam Siak Kecil-Bukit Batu
Imbalance peat swamp ecosystem converted on a large scale through the construction of canals has an impact to declining groundwater levels and drying peat surface. Restoration through construction of canal blocking and replanting on a former peat land fires which had been conducted in Desa Tanjung Leban transitionarea of Biosphere Reserve Giam Siak Kecil Bukit Batu, was allegedly able to restore the ecosystem characteristics. This study aimed to determine the basic characteristics including airy water content, ash content, bulk density, percentage of carbon (C-Organic), and water table (groundwater level) and its changes. This study also determined the type and abundance of below vegetation the surface of the burnt peat swamp forest and already restored as well. Gravimetric method was used for analysis of the percentage of airy water content and bulk density, ashing methods used for measuring ash content and percentage of carbon, and scale crown cover by Braun-Blanquet for the type and abundance of below vegetation. The results showed that there were differences between the area restored and areas that were not restored include airy water content, bulk density, ash content, and the percentage of carbon (C-Organic). Differences could also be seen from high abundance of vegetation under which the abundance of below vegetation was found higher in the former peat fires that had been restored.
