Polygamous as a phenomenon become an interest study to research. Doing a polygamous is not an easy thing, given that it is still in married to his first wife and even have children. The amount of opposition to a polygamous marriage also affect polygamist poligaminya interpret behavior. This study aims to determine how the motif polygamists in Pekanbaru making polygamy, meaning polygamy in which they live, and the meaning of themselves as people who practice polygamy.
This research uses qualitative methods with phenomenological approach. Subject of this research consisted of two polygamists in Pekanbaru city selected by the snowball technique. Data collected through in-depth interviews, and observation. To test the validity of the data the author uses an extension of participation and triangulation..
The results of this research indicate the polygamist motive in Pekanbaru City do a polygamous past consists of motive (Because motive) and future motive (in order to motive). Because motive of polygamist in Pekanbaru City do a polygamy is (1) internal cognition motive based on polygamist get knowledge about polygamy, (2)internal affection motive based on pity for widows (3) dissonance family motive based on problems of the household,. In order to motive polygamists in Pekanbaru making polygamy is (1)reward motive based on to get the reward, (2) tarbiyah motive based on to educate wives, and (3) sexual motive based on to meet the sexual needs. Polygamist in Pekanbaru city interpret polygamy they do as (1) religious regulation meaning is law in the Islamic religion, (2)pragmatic personal meaning is the rights of the husband, (3) a solution of household problematic meaning. Polygamist interpret themselves as people who commit polygamy is as (1) personal knowledge, (2) the person who is fair, and (3) personal loyality.
