Esterifikasi Dan Transesterifikasi Cpo Menjadi Biodiesel: Variasi Berat Katalis Dan Rasio Mol Minyak: Metanol Pada Tahap Esterifikasi Dengan Katalis H2so4 / Lempung
Riau has abundant natural resources one of them was clay, especially clay from Maredan Village, Tualang District, Siak Regency, Riau Province. In this study, natural clay from Maredan village was modified by using H2SO4 solution at various concentrations (1, 2 and 3 M), then was followed by calcination at 500 oC for 3 hours. Activated clay was identified through XRD analysis and was used as a catalyst in the CPO esterification stage with various of catalyst weight (1%, 2% and 3%) and the mole ratio of oil to methanol (1:6, 1:12 and 1:18) at temperature of 65 ± 2 ºC for 3 hours. The water content of CPO was 0,19% and free fatty acid content was 6,61%. Transesterification reaction stage was carried out by using CaO catalyst from calcination of blood clam shells at 900 oC for 10 hours with mole ratio of oil to methanol 1:6, catalyst weight 3%, at temperature of 60 ± 2 oC for 3 hours. Optimum biodiesel was obtained in the conditions of catalyst weight LM2* (clay from Maredan activated H2SO4 2 M) 2% and mol ratio of oil to methanol 1:18 with reaction time for 3 hours was 74,57%. Conversion free fatty acid as big as 70% from 6,61% into 1,98%. The results of biodiesel were characterized according to ASTM and were compared with SNI 04-7182-2006 and the type of methyl esters were analyzed by using GCMS. The GCMS analysis obtained from the highest methyl ester product were methyl myristate, methyl palmitate, methyl oleic with retention time 33,848; 39,951; 35,915 and area 26,95%, 21,00% and 18,90%. Characteristics results of biodiesel in this research were water content 0,01%, density 887 kg m-3, viscosity 4,3 mm3 s-1, flash point 175 oC, carbon residue 0,11%, acid number 0,77 mg KOH/g, saponification number 203,12 mg KOH/g, iodine number gI2 52,78/100g, and cetane number 61,3. The characterization results were in accordance to quality standard of SNI 04-7182-2006 except for carbon residue result that exceed from quality standard of biodiesel.
