Pemanfaatan Tandan Kosong Kelapa Sawit Pada Pembuatan Plastik Biodegradable Dengan Penambahan Gliserol
Palm empty bunches are industrial waste of palm oil processing that contain of high cellulose, which can be used as a raw material for biodegradable plastic. The purpose of this research was to get the best formulation on the making of biodegdable plastic based on palm empty bunches with addition of glycerol as a plasticizer. This research was conducted experimentaly by using complete randomized design (CRD) which consists of five treatments and three replications, thus analyzed by using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and followed by Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at level 5%. The treatments in this research were P1 (addition of 1% glycerol), P2 (addition of 1,5% glycerol), P3 (addition of 2% glycerol), P4 (addition of 2,5% glycerol), and P5 (addition of 3% glycerol) in formulation of biodegradable plastic. The best treatment was P1 which had water resistance of 2.226%, water vapour transmission rate of 16.306 g/m2/h, tensile strength of 2.430 MPa, and elongation of 18.950%.
