The Influence Of Indonesian Language On Students’ Speech At The English Study Program Of Fkip Universitas Riau
This is a descriptive research entitled the influence of Indonesian Language on students’ speech at the English Study Program FKIP Universitas Riau. This research aims at identifying the influenced of Indonesian Language on the students’ speech at the English Study Program of FKIP Universitas Riau. The population of this research is 23 fourth year students of English Department (2013) of FKIP Universitas Riau. The main instrument of this research is interview. To get the quantitative data in this research, one rater is involved to analyze the errors that the students made. From the result of the interview, it was found that influence of students’ speech in term of syntactic is 26.08%. The influence of students’ speech in term of lexical is 14.49%. The influence of students’ speech in term of phonological is 28.98%. The influence score is 69.56%, which is categorized into positive. The research finding also shows that Indonesian Language influenced the students’ speech in term of phonological is the most. Therefore, the students should pay attention to learning and practicing speaking English more. The lecturers could also help the students listen to the correct pronunciation by giving the model how to pronounce the words appropriately.
