ABSTRACT
Communication is the key to achieve success of rubber plantation farming, it takes knowledgeable and well-versed people in the field of rubber plantation farming. People who are capable to repair wrong farming techniques, to prevent the occurrence of low rubber productivity, poor rubber quality and the price of rubber crushed. The research aims to analyze effectiveness of rubber farmer communications through the identification of internal and external characteristics and the communication process reviewed from elements of communication. This research used a survey method in two villages in Gunung Toar district through an interview of 83 respondents using a questionnaire. Sampling was done by purposive sampling method. Analysis tool used was analysis of the scale of likert, to analyze the level of cosmopolitan and external characteristics and analyzing the effectiveness of the communication of rubber smallholders in the district of Gunung Toar Kuantan Singingi Regency. Descriptive analysis used to analyze the communication processes reviewed from communication elements. Results in this research obtained effectiveness of interpersonal communication rubber farmer pattern for self-reliance in Gunung Toar District Kuantan Singingi Regency gained a score of 2.34 and is in effective category, while the effectiveness of communication farmers That are seen from the communication effect acquire a score of 2.11 and are in a fairly effective category. Characteristics of the external rubber farmers is: The intensity of the respondents rubber counseling is quite effective, the accuracy of the counseling channel is quite effective, information source is quite effective.
