Sintesis Dan Karakterisasi Sifat Magnetik Dan Struktur Partikel Oksida Besi Endapan Pasir Besi Pantai Kata Pariaman Sumatera Barat
The synthesis of iron sand from Kata beach Pariaman Sumatera Barat has been done by ball milling method. Before the process of crunching of the iron sand concentrate using ball milling, the sample was first processed through Iron Sand Separator to obtain the iron sand concentrate. Subsequently, the concentrate was crunched using ball milling for 7 hours. Then the separation of iron oxide particles with other elements was carried out using a bar magnet. The results of identification of chemical elements in the sample using X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) showed that the iron sand composition especially for Fe before and after the synthesis has changed very significantly from 12,20% to 47,84%. While some other elements have decreased in percentage, for example silicon has decreased its concentration from 54,86% to 25,40%.
Microstructural analyses such as particle size and shape of the sample were performed using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The SEM results showed that the sample has a grain size of 6-12 μm with irregular shapes, and consists of agglomeration granules. X Ray Diffractometer (XRD) result showed that the iron sand particles has the structure of tetragonal and monoclinic with maghemite (Fe2O3) and magnetite (Fe3O4) phases respectively. The magnetic properties of the samples characterized using Vibration Sample Magnetometer (VSM) showed that the magnetization saturation value is about 30.79 (emu / gram) and magnetization of remanence is around 8.1 (emu / gram). From the hysteresis loop curve it can also be seen that the sample's coercivity value is 440 (Oe). Based on these magnetic parameters it can be concluded that the sample is superparamagnetic.
