The Correlation Between Reading Speed And Reading Comprehension On Narrative Text Of The Second Year Students Of SMA N 1 Mandah
The main objective of study was to examine the correlation between reading speed and reading comprehension in narrative texts of the second year students of SMA N 1 Mandah. To collect the data a reading speed test and a reading comprehension test were administered. The reading speed test was in a spoken form and the reading comprehension test was in the form of multiple choice questions. A cluster random sampling technique was used to determine the sample of the research out of 98 students as the population. The scores of the test were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment though SPSS version 23.0. From the analysis, it was found that the reading speed of the second year students’ of SMAN 1 Mandah was in slow category, meanwhile their reading comprehension was in good category. The correlation between both variables was as big as 0.669. However, building mindset about reading speed is essential to be recommended because it is very useful to save time to take some tests which correlate to students’ reading comprehension ability.
