TIMBER EXPORT TO THE EUROPEAN UNION IN 2015-2017, mentoring
by Syafri Harto and Tri Joko Waluyo.
Indonesia is the biggest timber producer in the world and tries to
enhance its export to European Union as a potential market.
Unfortunately, European Union is very concerned with issues of
environments and legality. Issue of illegal logging hampers European
Union to import timber from Indonesia. This research explains how the
impacts of Voluntary Partnership Agreement (VPA) between Indonesia
and European Union on Indonesian’s export of timber to European Union.
This thesis is qualitative study to explain the impacts of Voluntary
Partnership Agreement (VPA) on Indonesia’s timber export to the
European Union in 2015-2017. Nation-State analysis with Institutionalism
Liberal theory by Robert O. Keohane is used to answer the effectiveness
of that cooperation. Secondary data were acquired from books, journal,
news, newspapers, and bulletins related to the issue.
The research shows Indonesian’s effort through Voluntary
Partnership Agreement (VPA) with European Union resulted in FLEGT
License that enable access to export timber and forest products to most
European countries. Export to United Kingdom, Belgium, Italy, Spain, and
several countries was stable in 2015-2017. Among 24 European Union for
export destination only Germany and France have decreased.
