Pengaruh Penambahan Glutathione (Gsh) Terhadap Mikroalga Chlorella Sp. Dalam Menyisihkan Logam Cr (Vi) Dan Ni Limbah Cair Elektroplating Menggunakan Airlift Bioreactor
ABSTRACT
Heavy metals such as Cr (VI) and Ni contained in wastewater from electroplating
processes are included in toxic and hazardous wastes. An alternative technology
for removing Cr (VI) and Ni metals in electroplating wastewater is biosorption
using microalgae Chlorella sp. Chlorella sp. has the ability to respond to the toxic
effects of heavy metals by forming phytochelatin. Phytochelatin can be synthesized
enzymatically from glutathione (GSH) which response to metal ions. Microalgae
that are exposed to heavy metals with a long duration will cause the
concentration of GSH in the cell to be reduced, so that the cell is unable to
synthesize phytochelatin to respond to metal ions and cause cells to become
lysis. The purpose of this study is to know the effect of the addition of GSH on the
process of metal biosorption in electroplating wastewater by microalgae
Chlorella sp. The study was conducted with variations in the addition of GSH (0,
5, 10 and 15 mg/L) and variations in contact time (1, 2, 3, and 4 days). Based on
the results of the study, the highest cell density occurred in the reactor with the
addition of GSH 15 mg/L which is 1.72x106 cells/mL. The highest removal of Cr
(VI) and Ni metal occurred at 4 days contact time with the addition of GSH 15
mg/L and obtained removal efficiency of 72% and 83%.
