Pemanfaatan Pet (Polyethylene Terephthalate) Sebagai Bahan Baku Pembuatan Ecological Bricks Dengan Penambahan Accelerator Kalsium Nitrat
ABSTRACT
The problem of PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) plastic bottles is currently a
product that is recommended only for single use, then disposed of in the
environment so that PET waste is very vulnerable to buildup and disturb the
environmental ecosystem. This study aims to recycle PET waste into a mixture in
the manufacture of ecological bricks (brick) so that it can minimize PET waste
discharged into the environment and PET brick can be used as construction of
buildings, walls and others. Optimal hardening of the brickwork usually occurs at
28 days. This is a long brick production process so there is a need to add an
accelerator (calcium nitrate) to the concrete mixture. This accelerator aims to
shorten the hardening time. The study was preceded by the enumeration of PET
plastic bottle waste then sifted. The next step is to print and test the compressive
strength and water absorption. The results showed that PET mesh no. 16 has the
highest compressive strength of 75.45 kg / cm², and PET mesh no. 8 with the
addition of 5% calcium nitrate has the smallest water absorption, which is 7.29%.
Addition of 5% calcium nitrate gives a good effect on the compressive strength
value of the block. When we viewed from SNI 03-0349-1989 which states the
classification of concrete bricks, the bricks made still meet the specified quality
requirements.
