Efek Variasi Daya Iradiasi Gelombang Mikro Terhadap Kualitas Karbon Aktif Tongkol Jagung Untuk Penjernihan Air
The power of microwave irradiation affect the quality of activated carbon.
In this research the activated carbon has been made of biomass of corn cob by
using carbonization process, chemical activation using potassium hydroxide as the
activating agent and microwave irradiation power was variated for 360 watt, 450
watt, 630 watt, dan 720 watt in 15 minutes. Analysis of microstructure showed
that the activated carbon is amorphous indicated by the presence planes (002) and
(100) at 2θ of approximately 21o and 44o. The power of microwave irradiation is
corresponding to the value of stack height (Lc). The highest value of Lc 0,709 nm
for the sample KA720. The surface morphology of activated carbon for the
sample KA720 produced lots of pores more than that of the sample KA360,
KA450, and KA630. The analysis results of surface morphology of activated
carbon supported by the results of EDS with the highest atomic percentage of
carbon element of 83,44% for the sample KA720 and also supported by analysis
atomic adsorption spectroscopy (AAS) show that the sample KA720 has the
highest adsorption value of 85,20% for Ni, then followed by Pb and Zn with the
adsorption power of 89,80% and 70,41% respectively. The sea water that has been
mixed with activaed carbon using microwave irradiation power of 720 watt with
level of colored 120 unit PtCo, salinity of 25,6‰, temperature of 26oC and pH of
7,41.
