The Correlation Between Reading Comprehension And Translation Ability Of The Sixth Semester Students At English Study Program Universitas Riau
This research is aimed at finding out if there is a significant correlation between students’ reading comprehension and their translation ability in translating English-Indonesian texts by the sixth semester students at English Study Program Universitas Riau. The correlational research was used to find out the correlation between two variables. To collect the data in this research two test were administered reading comprehension test and translation test. A cluster random sampling technique was used to determine the sample of the research. There were 30 students participating in this research. The result of this research showed that the sixth semester students at English Study Program Universitas Riau achieved good level both in reading comprehension and translation ability with the average score 68.91 in reading comprehension and 65.21 in translation. The rxy distribution of the coefficient correlation was 0.529 which means that there was a moderately strong positive correlation between reading comprehension and translation ability of the sixth semester student at English Study Program Universitas Riau. Therefore, the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and an alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted.
