Biofilter Yang Diberi Em4 Untuk Menurunkan Fosfat Dan Mbas Pada Limbah Cair Laundry

The laundry waste may pollute aquatic environment as it has high phosphate and
MBAS content. It should be processed before being flown to environment.
A study aims to reduce the phosphate and MBAS in that waste by using the
biofilter that was added with EM4 has been conducted in Agustus-September
2019. There were 3 treatments applied, namely the addition of 12 ml, 15 ml and
18 ml EM4 in the anaerob and aerob tanks (1,200 L). The waste was settled for 3
days in the anaerobic and 3 days in the aerobic tanks and then phosphate and
MBAS concentration were measured. The treated waste was also used for rearing
Oreochromis niloticus seedlings. The best treatment in reducing the phosphate and
MBAS was the addition of 15 ml EM4. Results shown that after being treated
using the EM4 enriched biofilter, the phosphate reduced into 0.86 mg/L and that
of the MBAS was 1.16 mg/L. The survival of O. niloticus seedling reared in the
treated waste was 93 %. It can be concluded that the addition of EM4 to the
biofilter tanks was able to reduce the phosphate and MBAS concentration in the
laundry waste.
