This research was motivated by the low mathematical communication skills of students. To overcome this problem is to improve the learning process, one of which is by applying the 5E learning cycle model. The 5E learning cycle model is a series of activity stages so that students can master the competencies achieved in learning by taking an active role, directed to seek and discover new knowledge themselves. The Ministry of Education and Culture stated that the importance of psychological aspects in learning mathematics is in accordance with the objectives of learning mathematics. One of these psychological aspects is self efficacy. Self-efficacy is a person's belief in his ability to take the necessary actions to solve a problem.
The research objectives were: (1) to comprehensively describe the effect of the application of the 5E learning cycle model on the mathematical communication skills of students of SMP Negeri Pekanbaru City in the experimental class better than students who learned with conventional learning in terms of: (a) overall and (b) ability level, (2) comprehensively describe the interaction between the 5E learning cycle model and the ability level (high, medium and low) on students' mathematical communication skills, (3) comprehensively describe the effect of implementing the 5E learning cycle model on the self-efficacy of junior high school students Negeri Pekanbaru City in the experimental class is better than students who learn with conventional learning in terms of: (a) overall and (b) ability level, (4) describe comprehensively the interaction between the 5E learning cycle model with the ability level (high, medium and low) on the self-efficacy of students.
This research is a quasi-experimental study, with a pretest-posttest control group design. The study population was all grade VII students of State Junior High School in Pekanbaru in the 2019/2020 school year. The research sample was selected by purposive sampling. By considering the number of groups on a large scale, the researchers chose SMP Negeri 12 as the sample. The results of data analysis are: (1) The mathematical communication skills of students of SMP Negeri Pekanbaru city who learn using the 5E learning cycle model are better than students who learn using conventional learning, (2) Mathematical communication skills of students of SMP Negeri Pekanbaru City who Learning using the 5E learning cycle model is no better than students who learn with conventional learning for the level of ability (high and low) and the mathematical communication skills of students of Pekanbaru City Junior High School who learn using the 5E learning cycle model are better than students who learning with conventional learning for the ability level (medium), (3) There is no interaction between the 5E learning cycle model and the ability level (high, medium and low) on the mathematical communication skills of students, (4) Self-efficacy of students at SMP Negeri Pekanbaru City the learners r using the 5E learning cycle is better
