Abstract: This study aimed to improve the learning process and improve the student’s
Mathematical Problem Solving Skill by applied Problem Based Learning (PBL) model.
This study was Classroom Action Research with two cycles. This research conducted of
class XI.IPA.3 SMA Negeri 9 Pekanbaru on even semester of academic year 2019/2020
wich consists of 35 students with heterogeneous academic. The instruments used in this
research were learning devices and the instruments of collecting data. The learning
devices used include syllabus, lesson plan, and student work sheets, the instruments of
collecting data were observation sheets and Mathematical Problem Solving Skill test.
The observation sheets were analyzed qualitatively, while the Mathematical Problem
Solving Skill test was analyzed quantitatively. The results of this study showed that the
implementation of PBL can improve the learning process and students' Mathematical
Problem Solving Skill. The student’s average score in first cycle which is 71.14, had
improved to 88.34 in second cycle. This study concludes that the implementation of PBL
improved the learning process and the student’s mathematical problem solving skill at
class XI.IPA.3 students of SMA Negeri 9 Pekanbaru..
