Analisa Mahasiswa Mengikuti Organisasi Badan Eksekutif Mahasiswa Terhadap Prestasi Akademik Menggunakan Metode K-Means Clustering

The Student Executive Board (BEM) is one of the organizations in Riau University.
In this study BEM in question is bem faculty level. The Executive Board carries
majors in each faculty. One of the factors of low interest in students towards the
organization is the circulation of a false assumption that students who participate in
the organization are feared to be experiencing a decrease in academic achievement
or Cumulative Achievement Index (IPK), so it takes a long time to complete the
lecture period and it is feared that students will find it difficult to get a job. The
essence of this false assumption is that students who participate in the organization
will not be able to achieve satisfactory academic achievement. The purpose of this
study is to know the influence of student organizations on student academic
achievement. In this study, the data used was academic data and student activity
data of Riau University in 2014 which amounted to 8,686 data. The method used in
this study is K-means Clustering. K-Means Clustering is a method that is able to
group students who follow bem organizations and who do not follow the BEM
organization by looking at the length of study, graduation predicate and student
IPK. Data processing in this study uses the python programming language. The
stages in this study are data preparation, data preprocessing, clustering process with
K-Means, testing clustering results using coefficient silhouettes and concluding
results. Based on the results of the study, that students who participated in bem
organizations did not affect the academic achievement of students and Cluster with
the number of K=3 had a coefficient silhouette value of 0.720589245894626 which
belongs to the strong structure group.
