Hubungan Self Awareness Terhadap Kepatuhan Hand Hygiene Mahasiswa Profesi Ners Fakultas Keperawatan Universitas Riau

Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) are hospital acquired
infection and can be transmitted by hand contact. One of the simple and effective
ways to prevent HAIs is hand hygiene. This study aims to determine association
between self awareness and hand hygiene obedience for nurse proffesional students
of the Faculty of Nursing, Riau University. Methods: This research design used
descriptive correlative with crosssectional approach. This study took 109 students as
sample by simple random sampling technique. This study used questionnaires that
has been tested for its validity and reliability. The analysis of this study used chi
square test. Result: Research showed the majority of respondents were in late
adolescents (89%), female (79.8%), and the education program A (72.5%). The
results of statistical tests showed that students who were in the high self awareness
category (71.2%) had obedience in implementing hand hygine (p value 0.02 with α
0.05). Conclusion: This research showed that there was a significant correlation of
self awareness and hand hygiene obedience for nurse proffesional students of the
Faculty of Nursing, Riau University. Educational institutions and hospital are
recommended to conduct socialization and application of hand hygiene to nurse
professional students in an effort to prevent HAIs.
