The Correlation Between English Department Students’ Habit In Watching English Movies And Their Vocabulary Knowledge
This research aims to find out if there is a significant correlation between English department students’ habit in watching English movies and their vocabulary knowledge. This is a correlational research that has two variables. The number of sample is 80 students chosen by using cluster random sampling. Questionnaire and vocabulary test were used to collect the data. The data were collected through questionnaire in order to measure students’ habit in watching English movies and vocabulary test to measure students’ vocabulary knowledge. The collected data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment Correlation. The result shows that there is moderate correlation between students’ habit in watching English movies and their vocabulary knowledge with the correlation value 0.451, while the coefficient correlation is 42 %. The students’ habit in watching English movies are categorized into “high” and vocabulary knowledge is categorized into “good” ability. In other words, it is implied that the students’ habit in watching English movies was influenced to the acquisition of vocabulary knowledge.
