Discipline in short can be interpreted as obedience (compliance) to
regulations (order and so on). As a process, discipline trains a person so that he
is able to develop self-control which has an impact on work effectiveness. This
illustrates that discipline is very important for teachers in carrying out their
duties because it will have an impact on their performance as teachers which will
ultimately have a positive influence on the achievement of the vision and mission
of the organization, and will have an impact on the quality of the school.
Discipline in the organizational environment has actually been attempted by
enacting a set of rules that are binding on every teacher so that they can carry out
their responsibilities in accordance with the rules and regulations that have been
determined. The government has also made efforts with the issuance of
Government Regulation No. 53/2010 concerning civil servant discipline which
states firmly that every disciplinary violation will be given sanctions and penalties
according to the type of disciplinary violation ranging from mild, moderate, to
severe levels. Assessment on Discipline aspect is also one of the important
elements of work behavior that is assessed in the Annual Work Performance
Assessment.
In addition, in the discipline aspect, the headmater also has a role as a
motivator in the discipline, namely as a driver that causes motivation to arise in
others, in this case the teacher as a subordinate to carry out for example a task or
job. In addition to the headmaster's leadership and punishment, another factor,
namely rewards such as rewards for work, is very important for teacher
discipline. The headmaster can make efforts that can maintain the teachers
discipline, one of which is by applying rewards. Reward aims to generate
motivation for work performance which can be seen from good discipline.
