Motivasi Berhenti Merokok Pada Mahasiswa Universitas Riau
Smoking behavior in Indonesia continues to increase every year
even though it has been known to cause many bad effects. The smoking cessation
program in the university area is one of the government's ways to reduce the
number of smokers. The factor that influences the success of the smoking
cessation program is the motivation to quit smoking. Purpose: This study aims to
determine the rationale for smoking cessation among students at the University of
Riau. Methods: The design of this research was descriptive with voluntary
sampling technique. Respondents are students from each faculty at the University
of Riau totaling 309 people. The research instrument used an adaptation
questionnaire from the contemplation ladder and a transtheoretical model. All the
data were analyzed using univariate. Results: The results showed that the most
data for the age started to smoke were 18-24 years, duration of smoked 1-5 years,
totally consumed cigarettes a day 1-10 cigarettes, the reason why started to
smoke was due to pressure/stress and the reason why stopped smoking was due to
health factor. A total of 160 people (51.8%) had a high level of motivation to quit
smoking and the contemplation stage was the most common stage of quitting
smoking (27.8%). Conclusion: The highest level of motivation to quit smoking
among students at Riau University is a high-level motivation with a scale of 8-10
and the most motivational stage of quitting smoking is in the contemplation stage.
