ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is (1) To determine the characteristics of sago
farmers in Tanjung Village Tebing Tinggi Barat District Kepulauan Meranti
Regency. (2) To determine the role of local wisdom and forms of local wisdom
that still exist in Tanjung Village Tebing Tinggi Barat District Kepulauan Meranti
Regency in dealing with peatland fires. (3) Knowing the efforts made to maintain
local wisdom in preserving peatlands. The research method used is a survey
method with the help of a questionnaire that has been prepared. The total
population in this study were 120 farmers with a sample of 30 farmers. The
sampling technique used is the Purposive Sampling technique. Analysis of the
data used is analysis descriptive research to answer the research objectives. The
results have shown that the characteristics of sago farmers are categorized as good
enough, the role of local security has been carried out very well, starting and local
security in sago cultivation as well as local wisdom in dealing with peat fires, and
the efforts made to maintain local wisdom to the sustainability of the blur is with
ecological, socio-cultural, and economics aspects.
