ABSTRACT
The forest management unit (FMU) was established based on Law no. 41/1999 on
Forestry which was originally developed as a tangible manifestation of
decentralized management of protection forest and production forests at the site
level. Kuantan Singingi Regency is one of the regencies in Riau Province in which
there is a Forest Management Unit (FMU). The purpose of this study was to
determine the effect of the existence of KPH on the community around the South
Kuantan Singingi KPHL, Kuantan Singingi Regency. This research was conducted
using a survey method, which is a method that aims to collect data from a number
of variables in the community through in-depth interviews and is guided by the
questions that have been provided previously. The results showed that the
community’s assessment of KPH managers in managing the South Kuantan
Singingi KPHL was good. The KPHL party contributes a lot to the surrounding
community, basides that the KPH has coordinated well with the community and has
often conducted socialization regarding the use of forest products such as the use
of timber forest product and non-timber forest products. Utilization is also in the
field of tourism with the aim of improving the standard of living of the community.
The KPH alse contributes to the development of the community durian garden. By
maintaining forest conditions, the community alse gets benefits such as avoiding
landslides and floods.
