Infestasi Soil Transmitted Helminths Dan Faktor Yang Mempengaruhinya Pada Pekerja Di Tiga Rumah Potong Hewan Provinsi Riau
Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) are a group of worms that can cause infection
in humans through contaminated soil. STH infestation still remains a global
health problem. The types of worms included are Ascaris lumbricoides,
hookworms namely Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus, and
Trichuris trichiura. In general, STH infestation can be influenced by factors of
personal hygiene and environmental sanitation. The purpose of this study was to
identify STH infestations and factors that influence on workers in three
slaughterhouses in Riau Province. This study is an analytic study with a crosssectional
approach in August 2020 to December 2021. Stool samples and risk
factors data were obtained from 37 respondents and questionnaire respectively.
The result showed that 10,8% workers in three slaughterhouses in Riau Province
were infested by STH and was cause by hookworms and Trichuris trichiura. No
infestations of Ascaris lumbricoides was found. Based on Fisher exact test, the
result showed there is a relation between the use personal protective equipment
with STH infestations (p value=0,00). But, there was no relation between risk
factors such as habits of washing hands, eating habits, finger nail hygiene and
environmental sanitation with STH infestations.
