Profil Karies Gigi Pada Pasien Diabetes Melitus Di Rsud Arifin Achmad Provinsi Riau
Dental caries is a disease in the oral cavity that infects the
hard tissues of the teeth. Patients with chronic and uncontrolled DM have an effect
on the formation of dental caries. Objective: This study aims to determine the profile
of diabetic patients, DM status, and the number of teeth affected by caries in
patients at the Arifin Achmad General Hospital, Riau Province. Method: This study
used a prospective descriptive research design, with consecutive sampling. The
sample of this study was DM patients with dental caries who had not received
treatment and informed consent. Primary data from patients and secondary data
from medical records. Results: Characteristics of DM patients by age consisted of
26-45 years (3.33%), 46-45 years (26.66%), 56-65 years (56.66%). There were 6
patients with controlled DM status (20%), 24 patients with uncontrolled DM status
(80%). The number of teeth affected by caries in each DM patient was 1 tooth
(20%), 2 teeth (13.3%), and 2 teeth (66.7%). Conclusion: The characteristics of
DM patients with dental caries at Arifin Achmad General Hospital were the
highest: age 56-65 years; female gender; housewife work; and high school
education. Controlled DM patients were 6 people, DM status was not 24 people.
The number of teeth affected by caries in each DM patient was 1 tooth, 2 teeth, and
2 teeth.
