ABSTRACT
Tribology is an interdisciplinary science and technology about the interaction of surfaces in
their relative motion. In other words, tribology is the knowledge of friction, lubrication and
wear. A pin-on-disc tribometer is a tribometer that uses a pin and a disc as two rubbing
surfaces. Friction and wear in the engine elements must be controlled, so that the engine can
work optimally well, the most effective and widely used way to control friction is lubrication.
Mineral oil is a lubricant that is commonly used today, but mineral oil has a weakness, namely,
it is not renewable and has a toxic value to the environment. In tackling the availability of basic
material resources from lubricant, it can be done by using vegetable oil as a combination
material of mineral lubricant. oil, namely Palm Oil. However, vegetable oils have a lower
resistance to high temperatures than mineral oils. The resistance to variations in lubricants
has different values at high temperatures having the highest wear rate value, 100% palm oil at
3,921 × 10-14 m2/N, 100% mineral oil at 3,78774 × 10-14 m2/N, variations in the mixture of
palm oil and mineral oil 75% -25% is 4,294 × 10-14 m2/N and 50%-50% is 1,711 × 10-14 m2/N.
