Mediamorfosis Harian Bisnis Indonesia Menjadi Media Konvergensi Dari Perspektif Redaksi Dan Manajemen
Convergence as a mode of newspaper mediamorphosis is currently developing in Indonesia, starting from the transition of newspapers to online sites in 1995, a year after the Internet entered Indonesia. Republika Online, Kompas, Bisnis Indonesia, and TempoInteraktif are some of newspapers that pioneered mediamorphosis in Indonesia. This research aims (1) to get to know what the redaction and management team of Bisnis Indonesia do in the process of mediamorphosis and convergency, (2) to get to know how the management team of Bisnis Indonesia carries out mediamorphosis and media convergence, and (3) to find out what kind of obstacles and challanges faced bg Bisnis Indonesia in carrying out mediamorphosis and media convergence.
This research was done with a qualitative method approch along with with 10 informants from the newspaper and 2 more from the readers. In the process of obtaining data in this research, it was done from primary and secondary data sources obtained from interviews, participant observations, and documents.
This research also found out that the growth of fixed Internet users using both cable and Wifi and the surge in mobile Internet users using smartphones had an impact on the decline in circulation, readability, and sales of print media, including Bisnis Indonesia. In particular, the growth of social media has drastically changed the behavior of audiences in seeking information and news since Android technology became a smartphone operating system starting in 2008. Audiences turned to online news sites and social media as their main sources of information, so this is threathening the number of newspaper subscribers, as well as surpessing the value of the sales. The convergence of Bisnis Indonesia daily encourages changes in redaction kitchen and marketing management, such as the establishment of Bisnis Indonesia Information Network to become an integrated redaction kitchen, Bisnis.com as the connecting sites, the establishment of an Integrated Marketing Solution and Integrated Marketing Communication, as well as Bisnis Indonesia Bigstore as a digital outlet. However, these digital outlets haven't used Paypal, which is much needed in digital business, so it becomes an obstacle in serving customers from overseas. In addition, convergence that encourages the stronger nature of collaboration between redaction management and marketing for opportunities to obtain new revenue sources, is prone to removing firewalls that are always guarded by the editors. This becomes a concern because of the nature of mediamorphosis and convergence which tend to capitalize on content and audiences on various media platform. Therefore, the commitment of redaction management is needed to guard the firewall so that the media function as a social control tool in redation hands continue. Convergence era becomes a challange for old media, such as newspaper to defend themselves through collaboration with new media in the digital realm so that they can be more competitive in facing the intense competition to attract readers and increase revenue
