Pengaruh Debit Aliran Terhadap Proses Anaerobik Pada Pengolahan Palm Oil Mill Eflluent (Pome)
ABSTRACT
Upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor is very effective in treating POME because it has a sludge bed, sludge blanket, gas separator, fluid separator and higher methane production. The aims of this research were to study the effect of flow rate on total COD, dissolved COD, bacterial growth through VSS, total volatile acid formation (TAV), biogas production, sludge volume index (SVI) and changes in pH in POME treatment anaerobically using an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor continuously. The research was conducted by varying the flow rate of 0.2; 0.4; and 0.6 L/hour with a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 24 hours each; 12; and 9 hours. The results showed the highest total and dissolved COD removal, the highest VSS growth, the highest biogas production, the lowest SVI occurred and the lowest TAV formation efficiency rate at a flow rate of 0.2 L/hour are 70 %, 70 %, 8.67 g/L, 10 mL/g, 20.04 mL/g, and 3.612 g/L, respectively.
