Pengaruh Penambahan Variasi Gliserol Terhadap Karakteristik Bioplastik Dari Limbah Kulit Nanas
ABSTRACT
The used of plastic as packaging material has caused environmental problems because plastic is not easily decomposed by nature. Therefore, it is necessary to develop environmentally friendly plastics based on biomass or usually called bioplastics. In this study, the biomass used was pineapple peel waste with the addition of a plasticizer (glycerol). The addition of glycerol in the manufacture of bioplastics can affect the characteristics of bioplastics in the form of thickness, water resistence, biodegradability, tensile strength and also percent of elongation. The purpose of this research was to determined the effect of adding variations of glycerol to the resulting bioplastics and to compare the results of testing bioplastics made with established standard JIS-2-1707, SNI-7188.7:2011 and ASTM D-6002. Bioplastic were made by mixing pineapple skin starch, chitosan, acetic acid pa, distilled water and glicerol pa (with variations of 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 grams) distilled water and glycerol which was stirred using a mechanical stirrer while heated using a hot plate with 70ºC until thickened for 15 minutes. After that, the bioplastic molded using a mold and dry it with room temperature for 5 days. Testing of bioplastics includes testing of thickness, water resistance, biodegradability, and tensile strength. From the bioplastic tests carried out, it was known that the addition of glycerol with different variations produced different bioplastic characteristics. The characteristics of the bioplastics obtained were still some variations that were below the standard. The optimum characteristics of the analyzed bioplastics was the addition of 2 grams glycerol pa was obtained the thicknees 0,18 mm, water resistance 57,14%, estimated degradation time for 10,2 days and the value of tensile strength was 0,15 MPa with percent elongation 128,2%. From the optimum results obtained, the characteristics of bioplastics that have met the standard were the thickness (JIS-2-1707, thickness value ≤ 0,25 mm), biodegradability (ASTM D-6002, biodegradability value for 60 days) and percent elongation (SNI-7188.7:2011, value of percent elongation 21-220%). Meanwhile, water resistance and tensile strength didn’t met the standards (SNI-7188.7:2011, 99% for water resistance and 24.7 – 302 MPa for tensile strength).
