ABSTRACT
The mixture of used cooking oil, diesel and spirits has not been widely used by people to fuel furnace stove. In general, kerosene is used as fuel in furnace stove, but kerosene is very expensive. This study aims to find alternative fuels as a substitute for kerosene for stovetops. In order to get the best performance of the stove with the furnace stove, it is necessary to treat variations in the ratio of the mixture of used cooking oil, diesel and spirits (9 : 0,5 : 0,5), (8 : 1 : 1), and (7 : 1,5 : 1,5 ) as fuel. Before being used, 5 liters of used cooking oil was given 75 grams of wood charcoal adsorbent, then the wood charcoal adsorbent and used cooking oil were separated by filtering using gauze, then mixing used cooking oil, diesel and spirit with variations of 2 liters each. The fuel mixture is analyzed before and after being used on the furnace stove. The performance of the furnace stove is determined based on the color of the flame, the time it takes to boil 1 liter of water and the time it takes 1 liter of fuel to burn out. The results showed that the best fuel performance was having a blue yellow flame, the time to boil 1 liter of air was 11 minutes 15 seconds and the time needed for 1 liter of fuel to burn out was 3 hours 45 minutes 14 seconds. This fuel is a mixture of used cooking oil with diesel and spirits at a ratio of 7: 1.5: 1.5. The characteristics of this fuel include a density of 0.86 gr/cm3, a viscosity of 38.11 mm2/s, and a calorific value of 44,874.01 J/kg.
