Pembuatan Pasta Gigi Dari Kulit Jeruk Dengan Variasi Suhu Operasi
ABSTRACT
Pectin is a complex polysaccharide containing galacturonic acid linked by -(1-4) glycodidic which is found in plant cell walls. Pectin compounds are widely used in the pharmaceutical, food and beverage industries. Toothpaste is a tooth cleanser in the form of a paste that is used by applying it to a toothbrush. This study aims to determine the effect of temperature variations on the viscosity, pH value, high foam value, homogeneity and organoleptic of the resulting toothpaste. The extraction of pectin contained in citrus fruit peels was carried out by the extraction method using an acid solvent then ethanol was added to the filtrate to precipitate the pectin after which the final process was carried out, namely drying to get dry pectin, in this study the weight of the orange peel was 25 grams, hydrochloric acid solvent ( HCI) 0.075 N, extraction time 90 minutes, stirring speed 150 rpm, pectin deposition time for 16 hours. The results of the study were pectin which was classified as high Metoxil pectin with a methoxyl content of 11.16%, an equivalent weight of 632,911 mg, a moisture content of 7.4% and an ash content of 2.79%. Toothpaste was made with 4.5% orange peel pectin, the pH results were 6 and 7. For homogeneity, a homogeneous toothpaste was obtained for all variations. For the organoleptic test, a whitish green toothpaste was found, with an aromatic mint smell and a semisolid texture, for the viscosity test the value was 210,000 cP. As for the high value of the foam, the value of 11 mm is set.
