Pengaruh Waktu Adsorpsi Ion Fe2+ Terhadap Efektivitas Adsorben Karbon Aktif Dari Kulit Durian
ABSTRACT
Adsorption is a separation process in which certain components in the fluid phase move to the surface of a solid which has absorbing properties. Active kabon is made from durian skin. Durian skin is a waste that can pollute the environment. One of the efforts to increase the economic value of durian skin can be done by processing it into activated carbon. This study aims to determine the quality value of activated carbon from durian skin and to determine the effectiveness of activated carbon from durian skin in absorbing Fe2+ ions. Activated carbon is made through two processes, namely the process of carbonization and activation with potassium hydroxide solution. The mass of activated carbon used was 3 grams, adsorption time was 30,60, 90, and 120 minutes. To determine the quality of activated carbon, the characteristics of activated carbon were tested, such as water content, ash content, and iodine adsorption capacity. Based on the results of the study, the characteristics of activated carbon were 12% water content, 4% ash content, and I2 adsorption capacity of 564, 705%. The characteristics of the activated carbon produced, namely water content and ash content, meet the standards of SNI 06-3730-1995, while the adsorption capacity of I2 does not meet the standards of the referred SNI. The results of the study on the adsorption of Fe+ metal ions using activated carbon from durian skin as much as 3 grams of KOH solution volume of 100 ml and a contact time of 60 minutes, resulted in an adsorption efficiency of 94.16%.
