ABSTRACT
Every year, Indonesia experiences a rise in demand for benzyl alcohol. In addition to being a key component in other chemical industries, benzyl alcohol is frequently used in the production of medications, cosmetics, solvents, perfumes, and textiles. The hydrolysis reaction between benzyl chloride, sodium carbonate, and water results in benzyl alcohol. The continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) is used to produce benzyl alcohol. The capacity of the benzyl alcohol factory to be built is 10,000 tons/year and the selected factory location is in the city of Bontang, province East Kalimantan. The toluene distillation tower (T-101) is one of the key separators in this plant and is responsible for separating toluene and water from its mixed components, benzyl alcohol and benzyl chloride. The design of this toluene distillation tower has a height of 8.089 m, a diameter of 1.364 m and has 22 trays with a sieve tray distillation type and a torispherical head. The construction material used is carbon steel SA-283 grade C. The Break Even Point (BEP) is 42%, the Return On Investment (ROI) is 23.12 %, and the Pay Out Time (POT) is 3.12 years, according to the manufacturing feasibility research. As a result of the analysis, it may be determined that the factory is viable to construct.
