Prarancangan Pabrik Isobutil Palmitat Dari Isobutil Alkohol Dan Asam Palmitat Dengan Desain Alat Utama Reaktor Esterifikasi (R-101)
ABSTRACT
Isobutyl palmitate (C20H40O2) known as hexadecanoic acid 2-methyl propyl ester is an organic compound which at room temperature is a colorless liquid, soluble in alcohol and ether, but insoluble in water. Isobutyl Palmitate is used as plasticizers, namely materials that function to increase the workability and flexibility of plastics. Isobutyl palmitate is produced by reacting palmitic acid and isobutyl alcohol and adding a homogeneous catalyst in the form of sulfuric acid. The reaction is called the esterification reaction with the help of a homogeneous catalyst. The product in the form of isobutyl palmitate is then purified to obtain a high purity of up to 98%. The process of making Isobutyl Palmitate uses a Continious Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) reactor. The operating conditions of the CSTR with 95% conversion are 90oC temperature and 17.64 psi design pressure. Factory economic analysis is carried out to determine the feasibility of the factory to be built. Based on the results of the economic feasibility analysis of the factory, the Isobutyl Palmitat plant is feasible to build with a PBP of 3.02 years, IRR 22.705%, ROI 23.92% and BEP 43%.
