Pembuatan Pulp Dari Pelepah Sawit Bebas Juice Dengan Pelarut Asam Formiat
Abstract
Oil palm fronds are lignocellulosic biomass that has not been utilized optimally. Juice-free palm frond fractionation can convert the main components of biomass into valuable products, such as pulp. The purpose of this study was to study the effect of process conditions on the yield of pulp, cellulose and lignin contained in the pulp. The effect of process conditions was studied by Response Surface Methodology (RSM) Box-Behnken design. Fractionation of palm fronds free of juice was carried out at the normal boiling point of the cooking solution with formic acid concentrations (65%, 75% and 85%), reaction times of 60, 90, 120 minutes, catalyst concentrations (0.10%, 0.15%, and 0.20%). This research has 4 stages of process, namely cooking, filtering, washing and drying. The pulp from the process will be analyzed for pulp yield, alpha cellulose content and lignin content. The results of the research analysis showed that juice-free palm frond fractionation could produce pulp with yields of 37.7% to 44.52%, cellulose content of pulp from 84.62% to 86.88%, and pulp lignin content from 10.99% to 17.2%. Formic acid concentration and reaction time significantly affected the studied responses.
