Pemisahan Dan Pemurnian Selulosa Dari Ampas Tebu (Saccharum Officinarum L.) Dengan Metode Semi Mekanis
ABSTRACT
Increasing production and productivity of sugar cane indicates that more bagasse waste will be discharged into the environment. Bagasse is known to contain around 37.65% cellulose which can be utilized as a basic ingredient for various high-value chemical products. This study aims to separate cellulose from bagasse. Separation and purification of cellulose was carried out semi-mechanically with three stages of chemical processes, namely delignification using 1M NaOH solution, bleaching using NaOCl solution and hydrolysis with 3% HCl solution. In the bleaching process, NaOCl solution was used with various concentrations, namely 3, 5, and 7%. The purified cellulose was tested for several characteristics such as: yield, water content, holocellulose content, α-cellulose content, and functional group analysis using a Fourier Transform Infra Red (FTIR) spectrophotometer. From the analysis results, the highest yield of cellulose was obtained by using 3% NaOCl, namely 43.70%, with a water content of 7.47%, 57.44% holocellulose content, and 90.74% α-cellulose content. The results of functional group analysis, showing a typical absorption of glucose as a constituent of cellulose, appeared at wave number 3319.49 cm-1 for stretching O-H groups. C-H group stretching absorption at 2883.58 cm-1, C-H group bending absorption at 1315.45 cm-1, C-O group stretching at 1026.13 cm-1, and C-C group stretching at 896.90 cm-1 . Keywords: α-cellulose, Bagasse, Bleaching, Semi-mechanical.
