Strategi Indonesia Dalam Revitalisasi Indonesian Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO)
The purpose of this study is to describe how the Indonesian Government's
strategy to revitalize the Indonesian ISPO standardization so that it can be
accepted in the Swiss CPO commodity. Acceptance of Indonesian palm oil
commodities that are standardized against the ISPO value which according to the
European Union does not meet the standards is a situation that is the author's
analysis to formulate research problems. Indonesian palm oil exports to EFTA
countries are a relatively small category, but this referendum by the Swiss
Government has had a very positive impact on ISPO standardization and
Indonesian palm oil. Switzerland is an important actor influencing commodity
trade in Europe, even the world, which allows several other countries in the
European Union to do the same.
The palm oil commodity itself is the first experience for Switzerland to agree
on a trade cooperation with Indonesia. Bilaterally, Indonesia and Switzerland
agreed to provide a palm oil import quota of 10,000 tons, which can then be
increased to 12,500 tons over five years. In addition, Switzerland agreed to
reduce import duties by 20% to 40% on palm oil commodities from Indonesia.
Acceptance of Indonesian palm oil commodities that are standardized against the
ISPO value which according to the European Union does not meet the standards.
The immediate impact is the increasing positive image of Indonesian palm
oil in the global market, especially in Europe. With the result of the Swiss
referendum, all parties have again put their trust in the importance of meeting the
sustainability standards of palm oil by making it an important prerequisite in the
global palm oil trade. For Indonesia, this is a momentum to improve sustainable
palm oil governance through ISPO. The existence of barriers to Indonesian palm
oil exports to Switzerland has caused the government to carry out strategies to
overcome the problems faced.
