Prarancangan Pabrik Isobutil Palmitat Menggunakan Proses Esterifikasi Asam Palmitat Dan Isobutil Alkohol Dengan Desain Alat Utama Menara Distilasi (T-102)
ABSTRACT
Isobutyl palmitate (C20H40O2) known as hexadecanoic acid 2-methyl propyl ester is an organic compound which is a colorless liquid at room temperature, soluble in alcohol and ether, but insoluble in water. Isobutyl palmitate has the main function as a solvent and plasticizer. Currently, Indonesia is still importing isobutyl palmitate, due to the absence of isobutyl palmitate plant in Indonesia. Isobutyl palmitate is produced through the esterification process of isobutyl alcohol and palmitic acid with sulfuric acid as catalyst. The reactor used is a stirred tank reactor. The output of the reactor is isobutyl palmitate, isobutyl alcohol, palmitic acid, stearic acid, sulfuric acid and water. The product in the form of isobutyl palmitate is then purified to obtain a high purity of 98.95%. This purification process is carried out using a distillation tower with a sieve tray type. The operating conditions of the distillation tower are 193.97oC at the top and 355.43oC at the bottom with a pressure of 17.64 psi each. Plant economic analysis is carried out to determine the feasibility of the plant to be built. Based on the results of the economic feasibility analysis of the plant, The isobutyl palmitate plant is feasible to build with a PBP 3.02 years, IRR 22.705%, ROI 23.92% and BEP 43%.
