Prarancangan Pabrik Aluminium Sulfat Dari Bauksit Dan Asam Sulfat Dengan Desain Alat Utama Reaktor (R-202)
ABSTRACT
Indonesia has abundant mineral content, especially bauxite. Bauxite contains alumina (Al2O3) which can be processed into aluminum sulfate (Al2(SO4)3) through the Dorr process. Aluminum sulfate is an indispensable chemical in many industries such as the paper, batik, textile, leather, cosmetic, and fire extinguishing industries. The raw materials used in the manufacture of aluminum sulfate by the Dorr process are bauxite and sulfuric acid 77%. This plant is planned to operate for 330 days per year and work continuously for 24 hours/day with a capacity of 12,500 tons/year which will be established in Pontianak, West Kalimantan. The remaining time during the operation process is used for shutdown, plant maintenance, equipment maintenance and repair. The form of the company chosen is a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line and staff organizational system. The employee work system is based on the division of working hours divide of shift and non-shift employees. The major design equipment in this plant is the Reactor (R-202) which serves to neutralize the remaining sulfuric acid from the Reactor (R-201) so it will not interfere the process of the next unit. The neutralizer reactor is operated at a pressure of 1 atm and a temperature of 70 ⁰C. Economic analysis design of this plant shows that the aluminum sulfate plant is feasible to establish. The Break Event Point (BEP) is 41,445 %, Rate of Investment (ROI) is 24,507 %, Interest Rate of Return (IRR) is 22,71 %, and Pay Back Period (PBP) of 4,19 years.
