Penjernihan Air Sungai Siak Dengan Serbuk Biji Kelor (Moringa Oliefera)
ABSTRACT
Water is a basic need for life. River water is a source of raw water that needs to be processed so that the quality meets standards for use as sanitation or as drinking water. One alternative for water purification can be done using natural coagulants made from moringa seed powder. This study aims to study the effect of adding Moringa seed powder and the length of settling time in the Siak River water purification process and to determine water quality including pH, Fe metal content, hardness, TDS, color and odor of the resulting processed water. Coagulant production from moringa seed powder is carried out by drying the moringa seeds for 5 hours, then pulverizing and sifting with a size of -60/+80 mesh. The river water purification process was carried out by varying the mass of Moringa seed powder 1, 2, and 3 grams and the settling time was 1, 2, 3 hours. The best conditions for purifying Siak river water were obtained by adding 3 grams of moringa seed powder with a settling time of 3 hours, where the water has a clean color and a non-rancid odor with a water pH of 5.71, Fe metal undeceted, water hardness of 100 ppm, TDS level of 0.044 ppm. This is because the more mass of moringa seed powder causes the greater the contact surface area and the better it is at binding the impurity particles which will form flocs, then settle to the bottom of the beaker glass, while the longer the time causes more flocs to precipitate.
