Pengaruh Penambahan Kaolin Pada Proses Koagulasi, Flokulasi Dan Sedimentasi Dalam Penyisihan Zat Organik Dan Warna Air Gambut Dengan Koagulan Poly Aluminium Chloride (Pac)
ABSTRACT
Peat water is surface water that’s found in swampy and lowland areas that contain high organic substances, are acidic and dark brown to blackish in color, which in quality do not meet the criteria for clean water quality. The high content of organic substances and color in peat water is difficult to be treated conventional coagulation-flocculation processes due to lack of turbidity, peat water has a turbidity of 9.47 NTU, so in this study kaolin was added to increase water peat turbidity. This study aims to determine the effect of kaolin addition in the coagulation-flocculation process using Poly Aluminium Chloride (PAC) coagulants at a dose of 200 mg/L. The dose of kaolin used was with variations of 0 mg/L, 20 mg/L, 40 mg/L, 60 mg/L, 80 mg/L, 100 mg/L and 120 mg/L. Fast stirring speed 250 rpm for 1 minute and slow stirring speed 20 rpm for 20 minutes and continued with settling for 15 minutes. The results of the research showed that the addition of kaolin 20 mg/L increased the efficiency of removal of organic substances by 1.4%, and the color parameter increased by 0.81%.
