ABSTRAK A tribometer is an instrument used to measure a tribological quantity consisting of the coefficient of friction, frictional force, and volume of wear between two materials in contact with each other. This final project aims to manufacture and assemble a gear type tribometer and determine the effect of oil (lubricant) on gears. Generally what is related to the Tribometer is testing on machine parts that experience mechanical contact, friction is something that is often encountered in the industrial world, most often found in production machines in the industry, one of the consequences of friction is wear and tear. Manufacture of gear type friction test equipment (Tribometer) using components consisting of: shaft 1 with a diameter of 30 mm length 884 mm, shaft 2 with a diameter of 30 mm length 700 mm, Box Gear with dimensions of length 340 mm width 144 mm and height 244 mm and gear as the test material with a large gear diameter of 110 mm with a total of 36 teeth and a small gear with a diameter of 60 mm with a total of 18 teeth, a frame with dimensions of 1500 mm in length, 600 mm in width and 800 mm in height, an electric motor with 1440 rpm rotation and a regulator. The conclusions obtained from the manufacture of the gear type friction tester (Tribometer) are: have completed the manufacture of the gear type friction tester (Tribometer) and have tested the gears for 3 hours, it can be concluded that the gears rubbing against each other experience a decrease in mass gear weight.
