Pengaruh Penambahan Kaolin Pada Proses Flokulasi Dalam Pengolahan Air Gambut Dengan Koagulan Aluminium Sulfat
ABSTRACT
For people living on peatlands who have not received clean water services, many use peat water as a source of water for daily use, even though they do not meet quality standards. Peat water has a high content of organic matter and color, making it difficult to treat peat water with the usual coagulation-flocculation process. In this study, kaolin was added to the flocculation process which aimed to determine the effect of adding kaolin to the flocculation process using Aluminum Sulfate coagulant with an optimum dose of 280 mg/L in treating peat water. The coagulation-flocculation process was carried out at a coagulation speed of 250 rpm for 1 minute and 20 rpm flocculation for 20 minutes with the addition of kaolin in the flocculation process, variations in the dose of kaolin used were 20 mg/L, 40 mg/L, 60 mg/L, 80 mg/L L, 100 mg/L, 120 mg/L, 140 mg/L and 160 mg/L. The results of the study proved that the addition of kaolin to the flocculation process was able to increase the efficiency of removal of organic matter by 94.6% and color by 92.79%, the processing results showed a small performance efficiency for kaolin when compared to the addition of coagulant alone. Kaolin also influences the elimination of TSS values with an efficiency of 82.67%. In the TDS parameter, the addition of kaolin increases the TDS value, but the value still meets the quality standard, namely 115 mg/L.
