Prarancangan Pabrik Butanediol Proses Esterifikasi Dengan Desain Alat Utama Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (R-101)
ABSTRACT
1,4-Butanediol (BDO) is a primary alcohol and an organic chemical compound with the formula C4H10O2 which is an important element in a long production chain consisting of various intermediates and their derivatives, and has a colorless and almost odorless hygroscopic liquid with distinct bitter taste. Butanediol is widely used in various industries including electronics, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, textiles, solvents, paints, coatings, adhesives, and others. The main raw materials used in the manufacture of butanediol by the esterification process are maleic anhydride and methanol. This plant is planned to operate for 330 days per year and work continuously for 24 hours/day with a capacity of 40.000 tons/year which will be established in Cilegon, Banten. The remaining time during the operation process is used for shutdown, plant maintenance, equipment maintenance and repair. The form of the company chosen is a Limited Liability Company (PT) with a line and staff organizational system. The employee work system is based on the division of working hours divide of shift and non-shift employees. The major design equipment in this plant is the esterification reactor (R-101) which functions to maleic anhydride and methanol raw materials which produce dimethyl maleate as a side product and the main product is butanediol. The esterification reactor is operated at a pressure of 1 atm and a temperature of 60 ˚C. Economic analysis design of this plant shows that the butanediol plant is feasible to establish. The Break Event Point (BEP) is 25%, Rate of Investment (ROI) is 37,95 %, Interest Rate of Return (IRR) is 22,69 %, and Pay Out Time (POT) of 2,02 years.
