Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease resulting from elevated blood glucose or hyperglycemia. Diabetes mellitus has various complications throughout the body including in the oral cavity, one of which is gingivitis. Gingivitis is an infection of the gingival tissue. One of the bacteria that cause infection is Staphylococcus aurues. Prevention can be done by giving antibiotics, but irrational administration of antibiotics can cause bacterial resistance to antibiotics. The purpose of this study was to determine the results of the identification of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aurues in gingivitis patients with diabetes mellitus at Arifin Achmad Hospital, Riau Province. This study is a descriptive cross sectional study and the research sample is gingival plaque swab in gingivitis patients with diabetes mellitus at RSUD Arifin Achmad Riau Province. Samples that have been cultured are macroscopic identification, microscopy, catalase test, coagulase test, resistance test with cefoxitin and sensitivity test with Kirby-Bauer. The results showed that the MRSA bacteria found amounted to 4 colonies (44.4%) of 9 colonies of Staphylococcus aureus. The highest sensitivity pattern to gentamicin and levofloxacin antibiotics (100%), and the highest resistance to ampicillin, clindamycin, vancomycin, and linezolid antibiotics (100%).
